Awakening Your Appetite For God’s Presence

Have you ever been in a place where things just don’t seem to be moving? There may be times when you feel like you have lost connection with the Lord, having a hard time discovering that intimate place with Him. There are a few things that you can do to help get things back on track. One thing is for sure. If you plan to do nothing, nothing is exactly what will happen. Don’t allow yourself to drift aimlessly hoping that something will change. Make good decisions that will lead you on a path of awakening.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.

Matthew 5:6

The first thing you can do to get yourself “tuned in” to God’s Presence is to do nothing. That is right. The first thing you need to do is “nothing”.

The Absence of Something

This particular “nothing” I’m referring to here is the absence of something. David discovered that when he removed some food from his belly prayer returned to his heart.

I humbled myself with fasting;
And my prayer would return to my own heart.

Psalms 35:13

Sometimes we just need to re-establish communication. It may not take all that much fasting to bring you into a place of sensitivity to His Presence. Sometimes we just get in pattern of eating just for the sake of eating. Breaking that pattern to focus on the Lord can be just the thing you need to help give you a breakthrough in His Presence. It may just be one meal or a day. (Mark 2:20) The key here is that you realize that it is not just the absence of food, but the desire to be with God that will cause things to shift. Let your spirit awaken.

The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord,
Searching all the inner depths of his heart.

Proverbs 20:2

Create Atmosphere

When you skip your meal(s) make sure to incorporate times of worship, vocalizing your love for God. There is nothing more powerful than creating an atmosphere that exemplifies “heaven on earth”. Find a room in your house, begin soaking in God’s Presence, take time to create that heavenly atmosphere. When we welcome the Holy Spirit to fill our house He comes and washes us, cleansing all of the spiritual debris away.

Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.

Psalms 91:9-10

When we make the Lord our dwelling place, we will create an atmosphere in every aspect of our lives where He is welcome. When He is our dwelling place, He makes His home with us.

Read, Write and Muse

While you are creating this atmosphere, try to make a comfortable place for yourself. Get your Bible. Remove all your preconceived thoughts. Then ask the Holy Spirit to show you what topic, word, scripture or book He would have you read and meditate on. Grab your pen and paper and be ready for the Lord to speak to you. Ask God to give you His heart, wisdom, revelation and understanding. Be open to whatever God would show you. It may be something that is completely practical, an inspiring idea or such. Sometimes He will give us things that we would think, “Oh, this is not spiritual.” But in reality it is because He is speaking it to you.

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Genesis 1:1

We need to remember that God created all things. He is the most creative Person. Creative ideas will come when you get in contact with the Creator. Get tapped into the creative nature of God. Allow His Spirit to “inspire you”. As well, there will be some things you will need to write down for later, things to do and etc. Write them down and come back to them after your time so that you can rest and focus in His Presence. Take time to “receive” what He is wanting to give to you. Unless we receive from Him, we have nothing to give.
