Breakthrough! "The Outburst of His Waters"

2 Samuel 5:20
?So David went to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there; and he said, ?The Lord has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water.?
David is speaking about his experience with the Lord’s breakthrough. He describes it like
an outburst of waters that is like a flood breaking down the wall of resistance coming from?the enemies of God. This reveals how important it is for us to stay flooded with His Presence and let His waters?spring forth in our lives. Breakthrough does not come to us as much as it comes ?through us?. Just as Jesus said, ?rivers of living water will flow out?of us.?
h6556. ?????? p?ere?:?a break (literally or figuratively): breach, breaking forth (in), forth, gap, breach, gap, breaking, breaking forth, breaking in;?breach, gap, bursting forth bursting forth, outburst breach broken wall.
The following verse in Isaiah also bears some resemblance depending on where you put the comma. I prefer the Amplified version of this passage. God is the river, the flood and the One Who breaks forth with an outburst through the glory of His Spirit. He is the One Who breaks forth, springs forth inside of us driving out all resistance to His Presence and Person.
Isaiah 59:19
?When the enemy shall come in, like a flood the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.? NKJV
?For He will come in like a narrow, rushing stream
Which the [a]breath of the Lord drives [overwhelming the enemy].? AMP
We all want this place of ?overflow? in God?s Presence. Breakthrough is an integral part of that overflow. To tap into a life of breakthrough is to avail ourselves to the living waters of the Spirit through staying connected to God, the Source of these waters. This should lead us to ask the question. “How do we find a consistent life that has a non-stop flow of God?s presence, prosperity and power?” The answer lies in our basic consistent plan of commitment to the Lord, a life of discipline or discipleship. The word discipline has been mostly used in a negative context, as in punishment. The true meaning of the word is to help us value being the Lord?s disciples who are always learning, growing and increasing in His favor.
There are many aspects to breakthrough, but the beginning is where we open up our spirit. Removing spiritual blockages are central to the progress of the flow of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Thankfully God has created a simple way and method to bypass the complexity of reasoning to see this accomplished. Through lives of prayer and fasting, especially in the context of communion with God, we can accelerate the process of breakthrough in our lives. In the story of Isaac we see how the Philistines had clogged up the wells of His father. (Genesis 26:18) In the same way the enemy is always trying to clog our wells, to cause stagnancy where there should be a flow and hinder us in experiencing God?s glory on a regular basis. The enemy wants to keep things in spurts rather than have us experience that rushing river of His glory. When we see that our lives need ?unclogged? then we can approach God with this understanding, using prayer and fasting as tools to open up the channels of our hearts. There is a reason fasting is called ?fasting?. It gets things done faster. It is not for the sake of religious exercise to see who can look the most spiritual or for how long you can go without food. It is for spiritual breakthrough in our lives and for others.
John 4:31-34
?In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, ?Rabbi, eat.??But He said to them, ? I have food to eat of which you do not know.? Therefore the disciples said to one another, ?Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?? Jesus said to them, ? My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.?
Jesus said to His disciples that His food was to do the will of the Father. There is a key, that is not so hidden here, that brings us to a place of consistency of flow and connection in God?s Presence. Jesus was being offered food, but He said that His plate was full and did not need that kind of food. Use this key as a starting point to help you move into a place of greater freedom in His Presence. Take fasting, the Word of God, prayer and worship to clear out your well that God can bring your heart significant breakthrough and that you may experience His rushing river consistently through your life.

  1. I am diabetic and fasting is not an option any ideas? Monika
Thanks for asking Monika. God is aware of our physical limitations and what we can and cannot do. I?m not a doctor but a ?Daniel fast?(raw vegetables) or maybe just a meal that is a mix ?raw foods? (fruits, nuts, vegetables, water and etc) might not be out of the question. Sometimes just going without all the ?processed foods? can be a good plan. I cannot speak to your life personally on what would work. Definitely use wisdom and check with your doctor if needed to see what would be good.
    Blessings to you!

    • You don’t have to fast “food”!! And you don’t even have to fast…if you can’t. God knows. But, if you want to, you could fast something else, like TV, or whatever…and use that time normally spent to be with Him. Don’t get caught up in any sort of legalism…that if you don’t fast then you won’t receive. Just open up to the Lord, and allow Him to root out anything that might be blocking you. “Show me any unclean thing, Lord…” He is so faithful. Blessings!!

      • I appreciate your response Holly. It is true. No. You don?t have to fast food. And if you do have a physical reason why you can’t God does know. However, biblically if you look at the Hebrew roots of the word all fasting means is ?going without food?.
h6684. ???? ??m; a primitive root; to cover over (the mouth), i. e. to fast:? x at all, fast.( Qal) to abstain from food, fast
I hate legalism more than anyone. Realize that you can be legalistic about anything whether it is how much time you pray, read the Word, what color you paint the walls of a church, where you go to the bathroom, how you comb your hair and etc. People can be ridiculous about stuff. Jesus fasted.
        Matthew 4:1
?Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.?
He also encouraged His followers to fast:
        Mark 2:18-22
?And Jesus said to them, ? Can the friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast. But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days. No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; or else the new piece pulls away from the old, and the tear is made worse. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins.?
He also told us how to fast:
        Matthew 6:16
?Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, WHEN YOU FAST, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.?
Jesus encouraged also us to do many things like prayer, abide in His words, love one another. Fasting is not a negative thing. It is also not something we use to tell someone that they must do through manipulation. The root of legalism is when we force something upon someone. The motivation of the heart is what counts. Are we hungry for God? Or are we just trying to look spiritual?
David understood the benefits of fasting:
        Psalm 35:13
        ?I humbled myself with fasting;
And my prayer would return to my own heart.?
I knew someone who went on a 40 day fast once. He made it to the 39th day of the fast, then felt guilty. He came under condemnation then tried to fast another 40 days ALL OVER AGAIN. His motivation was completely wrong. He was being legalistic. He literally ended up in a mental institution because of this religious insanity. Legalism kills. I preach against it. All the same fasting is still a legitimate tool that God uses to bring breakthrough in our lives AND for others. Just because someone abuses a truth that God gives does not mean we throw the baby out with the bathwater. Jesus presents benefits to fasting showing us that some things just will not happen without it.
        Matthew 17:19-21
?And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, ?Why could we not cast it out? So Jesus said to them, ? Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ?Move from here to there,? and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.?
Again, you can be legalistic about anything. It is all about the heart motivation. My motivation to fast is Kingdom and relationship with God. Fasting enables us to become more sensitive to His Spirit. Fasting (going without food) is a good thing because it was God?s idea.
        Peace to you!
