Creating Spiritual Momentum in Your Life

As we pursue the Lord it can help when we realize the idea of creating momentum. This applies to us both personally and corporately. It really begins on the personal level then can have a domino effect on others as we gather together.

One person’s breakthrough is another person’s breakthrough as well. Because once a person obtains in an area that are able to then give that away to others, even spilling over into other lives.

There are different things or areas that help create momentum in your life spiritually. The key is to create a cycle of breakthrough and blessing. Once you’ve broken into an area then the next step is to create momentum in that area, keeping it going. In this you create what is a habit, pattern or cycle.

The picture is like if you were to begin creating a snowman. For those in very high temperature areas, probably not. Once you create a snowball, you then begin to roll it “creating momentum” and it gets bigger and bigger as you go – especially if it is the right kind of snow! I would do this with my brother as a kid and we would end up with a huge gigantic ball of snow. The picture is starting small but just stay consistent, watch it grow in size till eventually you have something to work with. The bigger it become the easier and quicker the size of it grew.

Here are some areas that create momentum in your life.

Enjoy Times of Worship!

Engaging in worship is a powerful way to experience momentum in you life. In true worship you are expressing thankfulness, giving praise to God. God inhabits the praises of His people. What that means is He will invade the inside of you with the attributes of Who He is. This will create a momentum in your heart and spirit to be sensitized to His Presence in deeper ways.

There is no limit on the depth of glory that you can experience in worship. To the measure you sow in worship it is also the measure you will reap the benefits. This also applies to all other areas we are talking about.

Embrace Fasting & Prayer

In a recent article, “The Four Progressions of Spiritual Life” we spoke about the power of fasting and prayer. This is a much more “sacrifice” associated engagement with God. Just as Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness for a 40 day fast it enabled Him to breakthrough into another place of anointing.

If you want momentum in “the anointing” I tell you it will not happen without this element of fasting and prayer. It won’t. You can pray for the anointing all day but if there is not some level of sacrifice in regards to a fasted life you will not have results. In regards to what God pours out upon your life in the anointing of His Spirit there will need to be this kind of sacrifice. If Jesus had to do it so will you. To the measure you sow will be the measure you reap.

There are different kinds of anointings. There are different levels of power. In Christ we do have an anointing that teaches us, gives light, understanding and revelation.

But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

1 John 2:27

In this context we are referring to spiritual power which is a different anointing of the Spirit that breaks oppressive yokes of other people. (Read Isaiah 58)

Delight in the Word of God

God has exalted His Word above His Name. Jesus was the Word made flesh. (John 1:14) The Word of God is quick and powerful sharper than any double-edged sword. (Heb. 4:12) Jesus used the Word of God as He was tempted by the devil. (Matt. 4:7) We also want His Word to become flesh in our lives.

This is an area where we can gain momentum by creating the habit that David talked about in Psalm 1.

Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.

Psalm 1:1-6

The promises of God enable us to be partakers of His divine nature. The blessings that come from the seed of the Word of God are essential for our growth in the Lord.

By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

2 Peter 1:4

Our faith rests in His Word. A person is only as good as his word and it is the same with God. The Word of God is essential to experience the fullness of His goodness. Create momentum by rightly dividing the Word of Truth. All scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for our lives. (2 Tim. 3:16)

Get Into Cheerful Generosity!

God is the biggest giver of all. To not be a giver is to miss the greatest aspect of the nature of God for you life. God’s people should be the most generous people in the earth. This does not only apply to money, but it does apply to money. Typically the hardest thing that many have an issue parting with is money. That is why Jesus told us that we cannot serve God and mammon.

Mammon would be defined as wealth having become a false object of worship and devotion. The word was taken by medieval writers as the name of the “devil of covetousness.”

Wealth is not evil, but the “love” of money is. (1 Tim. 6:10) This is why Jesus says to beware of covetousness . This is where living generously becomes a safeguard against a selfish lifestyle in regards to money and things.

Then one from the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” But He said to him, “Man, who made Me a judge or an arbitrator over you?” And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”

Luke 12:-13-15

Jesus tells us to be generous and give as it is also our faith in action showing that we trust God as our Provider as we give sacrificially. He attaches incentives to this with a promise of abundance, blessing and overflow as we express our trust in Him in this way – saying that God will give back to you more than you can give, even through others.

Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.

Luke 6:38

God will get to you what He can get through you. We can give in a variety of ways: time, money, assets, love, kindness and etc. There are countless opportunities to give daily. When we begin to experience the blessings when we give cheerfully, because God loves a cheerful giver, then we will create momentum in a cycle of His blessings upon our lives.

But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9:6

God is very specific in how we can “rob” Him – tithes and offerings. (Malachi 3:8-11) Make a point of being filled with generosity. The generous eye shall be blessed! (Prov. 22:9)

Presence & Power Gatherings!

Another big key for momentum in our lives is to find those who value the Presence of God, the Word of God and have given their lives for the purposes of His Kingdom. When we come together with the same heart and mind in pursuit of the Lord there is a synergy and momentum that we capture together.

What we can do together is much greater than what we can do apart from one another. One person can run alone faster, but together we go much further. This is why we should gather together often in seeking God. God will pour out His glory in much greater ways!

About five years ago we held a conference where there was such a unity and hunger for the Presence of God that by the end of the time there was a cloud of His Presence in the place! This typically does not happen when we are alone by ourselves, but together.

Don’t allow all the different options that are available in our society through entertainment to rob you of experiencing the glory of God! His glory is so much better and much more exciting than the junk the world produces.

The Church needs a fresh hunger and wind of God’s Spirit. It is time to get things re-prioritized. Don’t be satisfied with less than God’s best.

Use these keys to begin creating a spiritual momentum in your life. As we all learn to live as habitations of God, being set apart for Him, there will be much greater power when we gather together!
