How to Enter Into His Rest

John Belt
John Belt

?Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.? (Hebrews 4:1-2 NKJV)

Advance and Retrospect

The good news of Christ was preached prophetically to those in Moses day when they wandered in the wilderness – although it did not profit them because of a lack of faith.  Just as David saw prophetically that Christ would come to lay down His life as the Lamb of God. (Psalm 22:16a; Luke 23:36) God passed over the sins beforehand, before the cross, giving all access by faith although we experience the fullness on this side of the cross with better promises.

?For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.? (Romans 3:23-26 NKJV)

They saw in advance, we see it in retrospect. It is the good news of the rest that is available through the work of Christ Who was slain before the foundations of the world. (Rev. 13:8) Because of this we see the parallel in the Book of Hebrews of how we need to enter that rest of faith, rather than ?drawing back? in unbelief.

That Rock was Christ

?And all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. (1 Corinthians 10:4 NKJV)

Just as Abraham is the father of faith, it has always been by faith and not by the law. Whenever you start to live by a list, rules or laws you can know that you are falling away from the reality of relationship with Jesus that is only through faith. Man shall not live on bread alone but every word that ?proceeds? from the mouth of God. That is not just the written Word of God, but it being accompanied through ?living words? being spoken by God into our lives where there is interaction. Just as Jesus said, ?My sheep hear My voice and follow me?. (John 10:27)

Faith comes by ?hearing? and hearing by the word of God. (Rom. 10:17) The ?word? of God referred to here is the ?rhema?, not logos – the word that proceeds or an ?utterance? from the mouth of God. In other words it is your fresh manna that you receive every day in His Presence. This is where faith is produced and the resulting rest. As we enter into the Presence of God it is the spiritual environment for God’s words creating faith and rest.

Enter in to His rest today!

“Jesus answered and said to them, ?This is the work of God, that you believe in Him
whom He sent.? (John 6:29 NKJV)

  1. Amazing true, how the word of God helps you think and act, different and heals your soul when we read it,, it just brings life and awakens what was sleep,, thank you jesus for this bread of life!!

  2. I would like some prayer on this. I know I believe the Word and the Holy Spirit, but I must be missing something because all I feel is pain and no peace and storm after storm after storm with no resting in between. It will cease, but I still have no rest and I do not know why. The Lord is the most important thing there is to me and pleasing Him always is first on my mind. If I am not pleasing to Him, I would want to know what I am doing or not doing that is causing me to not receive all He has done for me, which includes peace, rest, and healing and wholeness. Thank you and God bless.
