Loving God is such a simple thing to do.Aren’t you glad that God did not make it something complex, difficult to figure out When we look at all the commandments that God gave to His people in Deuteronomy it can be overwhelming, a little much to keep up with. Jesus came to simplify things, not make things more difficult.
Teacher, which is the great commandment in the lawJesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it:You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.
Matthew 22:36-40
Jesus told us that all of the law and prophets are fulfilled when we love God and love our neighbor. These are the greatest commandments because if we simply do this all the rest is covered. When we live in communion with His Spirit, treasuring His words, our heart clicks into the right place taking care of the details. David was a man after God’s own heart. Because he had a life of worship, he realized that this was what God desired more than anything else. It wasn’t about all the things he did for God, but that He simply enjoyed being with God, spending time in His Presence.
Lord, I have loved the habitation of Your house,
Psalm 26:8
And the place where Your glory dwells.
That is where life begins for those who follow God. When we come to the place where we can say there isn’t anything more valuable to us than spending time with God then we have crossed into a place beyond the law. This is where God comes inside us and causes us to live for His pleasure. Here we’ve ceased trying to live by a list. Instead God writes His laws on our hearts so that our obedience to God comes through the Holy Spirit’s indwelling. God wants us to come up to the mountain to be with Him, drawing near in His Presence, beholding His glory.
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 3:18
When we see Him face to face that is where transformation takes place. Through a life of intimacy with God we reflect the nature of God. Instead of us working to be like Him apart from Him, we are becoming like Him by hanging out with Him. Jesus was filled with grace and truth, not judgment and laws. As the perfect sinless Lamb of God He fulfilled the law, taking the judgment, so that those who believe in Him could share in His life and walk as He walked. He did not come to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved (John 3:17). Through our life with God we also become carriers of His truth, mercy and grace extending His life to others. Through our oneness with Him we manifest His life and glory.
Herein is where we find Jesus telling us, Abide in me and let me words abide in you. We now find His love poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, the deposit of His abiding Presence. Living by laws was never the intent of God’s heart, because relationships have always been the goal. Enoch never had a law to obey but walked with God in such a way that he was taken on an earlier flight.
And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.

When God gets our hearts He can take care of everything else.
