The Overshadowing of Mary: The Virgin Birth

I ran into someone the other day. We began to talk about virgin birth. The powerful thing about the virgin birth is the fact that Mary had not had any relations with other men, but the Holy Spirit “overshadowed” Mary – placing the very seed of God within her, Jesus. (Who is from everlasting to everlasting! Amen.)

And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Luke 1:31-35

The Holy Spirit conceived within Mary the Son of God. The scripture refers to the baby Jesus as “that holy thing”. How glorious! How amazing! Jesus is referred to as the last Adam. The difference between Adam and Jesus is that Adam was a living soul being made from the earth where Jesus was a life-giving spirit whose DNA was of heaven.

And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

1 Corinthians 15:45-47

All of us were born into sin because of the fall of Adam. Because of the blood of Jesus Christ we are now born of God, bring joint heirs with Christ in heavenly places. It took the very blood of God to redeem us!

Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

Acts 20:28

The blood of Jesus is heavenly blood. It is not the blood of just any human being. This blood had to be special, being of heavenly origin. One day we will put on a new incorruptible body, but Jesus did not need a new body in His resurrection. He still has the same body because He was sent to us straight from heaven!

He paid the price for our redemption with an incorruptible heavenly body. That is why we see in the Book of Revelation all saying, “Holy! Holy! Holy!”. Jesus is the sum of perfection. He has accomplished the perfect work of salvation as Lord of all and Savior of all who will receive Him.

* As an extra note I would like to add that Jesus was completely man and completely God. The peculiar thing to note is that the blood of Christ is not like the blood you and I have. It is the blood of God, literally. The blood of Christ is pure, not tainted from the fall of Adam and is without sin. Because of this only His blood can cleanse us from our sins.
