What Do You Say About Yourself?

John Belt
John Belt

What you have to say about yourself is a big deal.? Did you know that you are valuable, you?are not some cheap leftover that Jesus died for? Did you know that the Father would not waste His time giving His only Son for those He didn?t truly value? What does it mean when God gives His very best for us? What it means is that we are valuable to Him. It cost the Father His only Son. That is expensive! So again we ask the question, ?What do you say about yourself?? What is your perspective on yourself and does that perspective line up with His perspective of you?
When we don?t value who God has made us to be we will say all kinds of devaluing things about ourselves. When you speak negatives about yourself that is not humility, that is false humility because it is not God?s perspective of you. In other words, when you put yourself down it is just backwards pride. We are created in the image of God – in His likeness. When we recognize that we are of God?s seed in Jesus Christ, we realize that we are born of Him, part of His family and have a rich inheritance in the Lord. As a believer, you are grafted into the highest order of family lineage that is sourced from beyond this planet – you have heavenly origins!

1. Speaking of Things As Though They Were

Romans 4:17
??God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did.?
You may say – I don?t ?feel? anything royal, special or significant about myself. ?Nevertheless, if you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you are royalty and of heavenly lineage. Now is the time to begin to see that manifestation of that reality in your life. How does this happen? Speak of that which is not as though it is. Shift the landscape of your life through they power of your words. Raise to life the things God intends to live in your life and shut down the things that don?t produce fruit – that should be dead! God said, ?Let there be light.? even though it did not exist – then there was light!
Begin to say what God says about you. Get your thinking in alignment with His truth about you and His promises for you. Speak blessing, life, His goodness and favor into your life – heaven manifested in your earth! Bring your life into alignment with God?s dream for your life and call. Through your words cause the new life in Christ, that has already been purchased for you, to come up from the grave! Then bury those things that only hinder your life from the fulness of His Spirit.

2. Stay Awake

Ephesians 5:14-19
?Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.? Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father.?
The reality is the enemy comes when you are spiritually sleeping. If you fall asleep then wake up, then fall asleep again you will have a hard time making progress in God. It will be much like a rollercoaster ride – up and down. If you are to apprehend the promises of God for your life you will have to stay awake. ?We have a promise. ?Awake, O sleeper and arise from the dead and Christ WILL SHINE on you.??Make progress in the Lord by simply staying awake, keeping your shield of faith up. It all comes down to hunger for God for all of these things are connected – your hunger, being awake and walking in faith. Stir these things through your intimacy with God – igniting the fires of worship and prayer.

3. Engage with God

I Samuel 15:22-23
?Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Obedience is better than sacrifice, a listening ear than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He has also rejected you from being king.?
God is not looking for a bunch of busy bodies. He is looking for those who are willing to wait on Him, seek after Him and to hear His voice give the ultimatums. In Deut. 33 it lists the blessings that are given to those who not only ?obey His commands? but are ?attentive to His voice?. It is not enough to go with a list of things to do in order to make God happy. You have to discover intimacy with the Lord through engagement with His Spirit. For it is when He speaks into your life personally that you get your personal next steps which open His doors of blessing in your life.
Don?t get caught up in the Martha syndrome of religious works. Martha was jealous of Mary, who was sitting at the feet of Jesus – hearing His words. Martha tried to tell Jesus what to do – ?tell Mary to get over here!? Jesus corrected Martha telling her that Mary was in the ?right place? – what Mary was doing would not be taken away from her.
When we set our hearts to hear His voice then He will lead us into the blessed path for our lives. It is in hearing the voice of God that we can realize the place of obedience. This is what God wants – for obedience is better because it requires an attentiveness to His voice. It cannot be accomplished without relationship. It is this aspect of our walk of God that opens up our eyes to know just how much God values us, because He wants to spend time with us – how amazing is that?! This helps our perspective of ourselves because He does value us, love us and has great plans for our lives.
Find value in God?s evaluation of your life. Build a history in His Presence. There is no time better spent that the time we spend with Him. This is history that we are creating with God – a reference point that we can look back on and say ?that was treasured time that will be valued in eternity!? Then see from the eternal heart of God, from His perspective – speaking His truth about your life as you have been created by Him and for Him.

  2. This has been one of the hardest time I have experienced in many years. God has given me Ephesians chapter one to digest fully. Not enough room on this page to explain and that really not important. Because of pain, I am unable to walk but few steps. On med for nerve blocker and scheduled for epidural Dec 1. Prayer appreciated as I continue to press in to God in praise and worship as Every Praise, Every Praise unto our God. John & Brandi you are so appreciated in the love of God for His people!

  3. Just what I needed to read this morning, yes indeed, time alone with the Lord is vital in building a deep relationship with him & I know very well it?s been a long time coming in my life! God Bless U both Abundantly in all u say & do!

  4. Thank you John for your thoughts on this very important subject. We have the mind of Christ and need to share this with the world. Our relationship with the Lord is the very most important thing. It is not so much what we do, even though these things have their place, it is who we follow and obey that matters.
