Have you ever wondered what the riches of His glory actually is? We know it is God’s plan to fill the earth with His glory as the waters cover the seas. (Numbers 14:21) Not only man, but the Garden of Eden was covered in glory before the fall. When John referred to Jesus he said, “We beheld His glory, the glory of the One and only begotton of the Father – full of grace and truth.” There is something very substantial about the glory of God – even heaven on earth.
“ To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:27
Since Paul is writing in the Greek language, we have to reach into the Hebrew language to get the cross meaning of “glory” – referencing how glory was used from a Jewish perspective. We see in 2 Chronicles that when the glory came the priests could not continue to minister because of the cloud of His glory.
“…the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.” 2 Chronicles 5:14
In my own personal experience, I’ve had this happen in different degrees. There have been times where there is the feeling of physical weakness in the context of being so relaxed because of the weightiness of His glory. This typically happens where I’ve been engaged in an atmosphere of worship. I’ve had it where I was praying for a person and they wondered if I was pushing on them while praying – but I wasn’t. They just felt very heavy like they were going to fall down. This is part of the experience that we have in God’s glory. In the same way, as we are dwelling places of God the Spirit comes in His glory as He is the “Spirit of glory”. It is a very peaceful, refreshing and relaxing experience in God’s Presence.
Here we go beyond an intellectual understanding of “Christ in you the hope of glory” to a place of experience where the Holy Spirit is tangible in our lives.
